I made these "Disparitas" series for the Final show at Candid Arts Gallery and also exhibited at "New Designers 2015" in London.

Sign Series 2015

Plate "Sign" 2015

SIGNS (plates) These plates were made by wheel throwing with addition of non-ceramic materials such as metal wire and vegetables. The surfaces are treated by graffiti, scratches and rips in order to accentuate the roughness and harshness of surfaces, looking for a sense of dryness and desert, underlining the destructive sense of time. This kind of surfaces on my works could often be resulted tormented and arid which I intentionally try to render broken surfaces. These series of plates were influenced by Peter Voulkos plates and Gillian Lowndes' mixed material ceramics. Peter Voulkos constantly made plates throughout all his life. I understood by reading his biography, that plates for Voulkos are a metaphorical landscape’s, often evoking a sort of catastrophic event in an remote era, perhaps reflecting the destructive side of modern humanity. For the plates he used a massive quantity of clay applied in circular shapes, altering its profiles sometimes destructing the form itself leaving scattered pieces or making holes with several cracks on the smooth plate’s surface that seems to be the result of an earthquake (he really lived the experience of the big earthquake occurred in California). His plates sometimes are painted with vigorous brushstrokes, in order to increase the dramatic aspect of the broken and the large fissures. Inspiring by his plates I wished to deal with the same subject seeking to follow his examples, taking suggestion from them, exalted the dramatic treatment of the surfaces, scratching, breaking edges with gestural and immediate brushstroke. I tried to express my personal interpretation on plates, following Voulkos' way in order to underline the destructive sense of the existence.
